Die Burkhart Familiengeschichte (Family History)
*THIS COMPANY IS A LIVING TRIBUTE TO FRAU BURKHART's BELOVED PARENTS
Phyllis Nussbaum Burkhart
Phyllis, Mutter von Frau Burkhart, grew up in Cincinnati to German parents (Nussbaum & Bier). Phyllis was the socialite of the family and a lover of the outdoors, Cincinnati, her family, people, food, and really - just a GREAT conversation! Graduate of the great University of Cincinnati, Phyllis was an educator by trade, but was also a true educator at heart - always showing a teaching or nurturing nature to all she came in contact with - the consummate loving school teacher! Sadly we lost Phyllis far too early to cancer in 2001. She really would have been in her own in terms of her daughter's company - it was right in her "wheel house"! A true fun-loving spirit that we use throughout our company to motivate what we do at Das KaffeeHaus von Frau Burkhart! Sie werden schmerzlich vermisst Frau Phyllis Burkhart - this company is a memorial and tribute to our dear mother - we miss you!

Richard P. Burkhart
Frau Burkhart's father Richard, or Dick as he was known to most people, grew up in Aurora, Ohio where his father was a public school administrator and his mother a homemaker. The Burkhart's moved to Cincinnati when Dick was a young man where he eventually joined the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Dick would go on to college to study chemistry and eventually became a product engineer for the Drackett Company where his "claim to fame" was being "mostly" responsible for the R&D of their product "Behold".
Along the way, Dick served a very short stint as a public educator himself, which is where and HOW this story all began - it is then when he met and eventually married Phyllis Nussbaum. They raised three lovely children; Leslie, Richard, and Amy (a.k.a. Frau Burkhart). Dick was Father first and foremost, and like Phyllis, LOVED the outdoors, Cincinnati, his family, and food (note the obvious omission of "people" and "great conversation" - Dick was much less a socialite "people person" than was his Phyllis). Unlike Phyllis, Dick did get to witness and appreciate the beginnings of this company. However, sadly we lost Dick during our first year in business and are saddened that he will not see to fruition the bright future this company has in store. Like Phyllis, Sie werden schmerzlich vermisst Herr Burkhart - this company is a memorial and tribute to you as well - we miss you Dad! |
